Check your flow and your weight before anything else

Two numbers decide whether an attachment will work on your machine: hydraulic flow and operating weight. Standard flow is roughly 15–25 GPM and runs most of what is on this page. High flow is 30 GPM and up, and you only need it for things like a cold planer or a large mulcher.

Weight matters more than people expect. A 72" rock bucket on a machine rated for 2,000 lb at the pins will lift it, but a loaded one changes where the machine wants to tip. The HP ranges quoted on each attachment — 30–70 HP, 45–70 HP — are there for that reason, not as a suggestion.

Grapples: skeleton, rock, or log

A skeleton grapple has tines with gaps, so dirt and small debris fall through and you pick up only what you meant to. It is the right tool for brush piles, demolition waste and rock picking. TMG's run 60", 72" and 84" with a 34" arm opening and 3" tine spacing.

A rock skeleton bucket is solid-sided with wider 4" tine spacing, for sifting rock out of soil rather than grabbing. A rotary log grapple does one thing the others cannot — it turns, so you can set a log down where you want it rather than where the machine happens to be pointing.

If you are handling firewood logs rather than clearing brush, the rotating log grapple is worth the difference. If you are cleaning up after land clearing, the skeleton is.

Snow: pusher, dozer blade, or bucket

A snow pusher has fixed side plates and moves snow straight ahead in volume. On a long driveway or a yard it will clear more per pass than anything else. It does not angle.

A dozer blade angles 30° left and right, so you can windrow snow to one side as you drive — better on a road or a lane where you want the snow off to the edge rather than piled at the end. TMG's come with bolt-on cutting edges and adjustable skid shoes, which is what keeps you off the gravel.

A snow bucket carries rather than pushes, which matters when you need to move a pile somewhere else entirely rather than just off the surface.
